In response to the collective social stress during the summer of 2020, I opened up my portrait commissions to my social media followers in order to raise money to donate to grassroots organizations. Over 50 people commissioned and donated money directly to me. I was able to split the total profits of $750+ for donations between Reclaim the Block and The Homeless Black Trans Women Fund (now Trans Housing Coalition Fund). I started this project as a way of thinking beyond a surface-level use for social media and how I could bring joy to everybody involved in the process. By using art to advocate for organizations doing important work, I was able to bring attention to a cause I feel strongly for.
